How does 360° feedback work?
First, be absolutely clear as to what you are hoping to achieve with your 360º feedback project. Then choose the most appropriate tool. Iceberg can help you with both these things – we can help define your objectives and then support you in selecting the most appropriate tool, depending on the target audience, the behaviours to be measured, and the appropriateness of existing behavioural frameworks.
Once you have selected a 360º tool, the basic process is as follows:
- The 360º questionnaire is set up (usually on-line but in a paper format if you prefer) and the participants and raters are identified (the ‘participants’ are the subjects of the feedback, the ‘raters’ those giving the feedback).
- The participants and raters are briefed on the process.
- Invitations to complete the 360º questionnaire are sent to participants and raters.
- The 360º questionnaires are completed, usually within a two-week deadline.
- Each participant receives one-to-one feedback and an individual report.
The one-to-one feedback can then lead on to the creation of a development plan and/or a formal development intervention, such as coaching or a training programme. Again, we can help you with this.
